Just because you can run a business from your home doesn’t mean that it is legal to do so. For that you have to comply with any local zoning ordinances, which can be found in your city and county offices. You should also check if there are any covenants or restrictions from homeowner or condo associations. If you rent, check your lease. Look for restrictions on signs, operating a retail operation, generating traffic or storage of materials if any of those apply.
Lots of people run a home business now without without bothering to check any of this. Many are out of compliance and get away with it simply because it is too much trouble and too expensive to try to catch them, but all it takes is one complaint from a disgruntled neighbor to cause plenty of problems. So check things out just to be on the safe side.
