Here are some more examples of people who know a good thing when they see it and do it over and over.
Popular fiction writers: doesn't get much more formulaic for the ones with franchises. They write the basic story over and over. It's what their readers want--familiarity.
Franchises: can't get much more obvious than that model.
Hollywood: if Big Hit 1 is a success, expect BH2,3 and 4 to follow. Same with TV. One show becomes a hit and look for 5 clones right away. Of course Hollywood shows the peril of mindless copy and repetition. How many sequels or copies are as good as the original? The Godfather II. Anything else.
Music: touring bands know they have to give customers what they want to hear, and that is their old songs. Nobody wants to pay $150 to hear Springsteen sing new songs. They want the standards.
